Rules of Procedure
The Rules of Procedure govern the implementation of the CACMS accreditation process. Their purpose is to articulate the procedures used in the process of accreditation of MD-granting medical education programs so as to provide information to the public and to promote transparency and consistency in CACMS actions.
Standards and Elements
The Committee on the Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS) Standards and Elements provides the basis by which the quality of Canadian medical education programs leading to the M.D. degree will be judged in the peer-review process of accreditation.
Standard and Element Titles
For ease of reference, short titles are provided for each standard and element. Each title is mapped to the equivalent standard in the previous alpha-numeric version.
Lexicon
This lexicon is a table of terms used in the Standards and Elements document and is essential for accurate interpretation of the standards and elements.
Guide for the Conduct of CACMS Accreditation Visits
The purpose of this document is to provide site visit teams and medical schools with a summary of the steps in preparing for and conducting a CACMS site visit. Sections of the document provide this information from a variety of perspectives (e.g., the site visit team in general, specific team member roles, the medical school), so the reader should select the sections that are most relevant.
Data Collection Instrument (DCI)
The DCI is a collection of forms to be completed by medical schools as part of the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS) accreditation process.
Medical School Self-study (MSS)
The MSS process consists of a systematic and iterative self-evaluation of the medical school based on information from the Data Collection Instrument (DCI) and the Independent Student Analysis (ISA).
Guide to the Independent Student Analysis (ISA)
Students play a very prominent role in the accreditation process. This guide provides details about the accreditation process and how students can contribute to it. It also includes the questionnaire that forms the basis for the Independent Student Analysis.
Accreditation Visit Report Writing Guide and Team Evaluation Forms
The report of an accreditation visit is the formal record of the team’s findings related to the elements of accreditation standards. The report serves as the primary source of information for accreditation decisions by the CACMS as the CACMS will not have access to the DCI or MSS evaluation forms.
